Welcome back to First Person Podcasts. It’s been some time and we are grateful to those of you who are coming back to us after a little hiatus. We’re back and raring to go with a totally original, out of nowhere, never before heard episode on…our Games of the Year. Don’t worry, we go all meta on the rhetorics of the term, and we talk about some games you might not have seen in a big GOTY list.
Listen in for a discussion on what it means to call something a GOTY and what we want our own picks to mean at FPS. We talk about a lot of things in this episode, so here are some links if you want to follow up:
- Betsy’s GOTY was Donut County by Ben Esposito. See this article for a discussion of the pre-release knockoff.
- Sarah’s pick was Gris by Nomada studio, because That Dragon Cancer didn’t make her cry (the MONSTER).
- Chris’s GOTY was Celeste by Matt Makes Games. When Elise asked if it was Braid-like,the answer is ehhhhhhhhhhhhh
- Justin’s pick was Into the Breach by Subset Games.
Honorable Mentions:
Ni No Kuni 2, Octopath Traveler, Spiderman, and Minit were all really fun games that our editors played this year. Katamari is now on Switch, Red Dead Redemption 2 has horse balls, the single long take in God of War is amazing, and Deltarune is pretty cool if you’ve played Undertale.
Elise swears she heard the “Oscars should be hosted five years after the release date” thing in a Cracked podcast but cannot find it because the Cracked archive is behind a paywall and paying for things is hard.
